That's a good price, seeing as it's shipped to your door free. I see them at Winco for $15.98. We got powdered milk along with our government cheese and peanut butter when I was a kid (bleh). My mom tried blending it half and half with regular milk, but it just made the whole jug taste like powdered milk. I have a couple, but mostly stack cans of evaporated milk. One can of it, add one can of water, and it tastes like store-bought fresh milk.

I've heard the secret to powdered milk is to add a few drops of vanilla flavoring....

    That's what my Mom used.

Yup! My mother did the same when bringing up my two brothers.

At some point in time, which I do not remember,

might have been when we moved or the dairy stopped delivering milk house to house,

our milkman went away, no mother wasn't diddling him, she was interested in the undertaker,

still was 40+ years later when she died.

With two rugrats to deal with, she used powdered milk and Karo Syrup mixed for them,

and I used the milk straight for my tea and coffee.

Remember this was in the early 50s, there were no supermarkets available to us at that time,

not until the old man bought his first car, a 1953 Chevy.

There were local little mom and pop stores where we moved from, none were we went to.

I am going to try making powdered milk soon.

I have been on a burn to start making my own chocolate bars lately so I have been studying up on how to do it. Milk chocolate obviously requires milk but any water at all will cause the chocolate to "seize" (whatever that means, but it doesn't sound good). So the chocolate guy that I have been reading describes how to make your own powdered milk from whole milk. Basically, you boil it slowly until it starts to thicken then just put it in a dehydrator. I'll let you all know how it works out once I try it. (I still have a couple more kitchen machines to buy/build, as well as raw cacao beans, before I can start. But...)
