    Anyone buying bulk pectin?

Hello, so the wife is bitten, and making jelly. Just ordered her two pounds of pectin, to stop buying the little boxes.
Anyone have any experience with it? I hope it works just like surejell.
Also, just a heads up, the ace hardware in my town has the best huge selection of canning related materials. pallets of jars, lots of everything.
The only bad deal I saw was Surejell, it was like 5.50 a box, at Ace, and its around 2.50 at walmart and Dollar general.
Jar prices looked comparable to amazon.
Anyone find an online site for jars?
I figure the wife will have to sell the "jars for 4$, and get free jam inside" is how im gonna market it.
You will never be forgotten. RIP Corporal Bradley Coy (USMC)

Never bought bulk pectin. I personally would not since I never know how much I will be using every year. The humidity is bad here in Ohio so if I have some open from year to year I don't use it.I only use the Ball
pectin that you measure yourself. Jars never bought online. I assume your in New Mexico? Doubt there is a Menards there but the only place I buy jars. You can go online to klip2save.com search Ball canning coupons and you can get good coupons for $3 off a doz. I think the cost is 24 cents a coupon and a $1 per order mailing charge. Order today and you surely would have them first of next week. The coupons expire late Sept I believe. I stocked up last year on pints for under $4 a doz.

I guess I'm going to get buzzed here, . . . but here goes anyway.

Why does anyone waste good money on pectin?

If the fruit is capable of being made into jam or jelly, . . . it has enough fruit pectin already in it.

If it doesn't, . . . why waste time making jam or jelly out of something that wasn't meant to be done in the first place?

Kinda reminds me of using pectin to make liver and onion jelly, . . .

My grandmother, mother, and none of my aunts that I know of ever used the stuff, . . . and neither do I. I make excellent strawberry, strawberry-rhubarb, blackberry, black raspberry, jams, . . . and never have a problem.

    Aww, . . . never mind, . . . I know, . . . I'm old fashioned.

    May God bless,
    Dwight

Some of the reasons for using it is here-

Point of Pectin: 5 Reasons to Add Pectin to Your Homemade Jam

It should be a crime to take beautiful fruit you bought at a farm stand or hand-picked yourself and cook the joy out of it. Cooking any mixture of fruit and sugar long enough will result in a jam that will set up in your canning jars. But longer cooking times can mean over-processed flavor, darkened color and a lower yield. Adding pectin allows you to cook jam for a much shorter time, which may result in the jam of your dreams. Here are five reasons to add it to your next batch.

    Nahhh, . . . it's just the lazy way out, . . . period.

Whoever that was sounded more like a CNN reporter telling about Melania, . . . than someone who actually has done any canning.

    But again, . . . just one ol' timer's opinion, . . . YMMV

I don't use pectin for apple butter. Cooking it long and slow until it gets think. Used a crock pot for this years one batch really good the second I'm not sure what happened but it wasn't great so threw it out.
Pectin use does help make consistent results. I prefer using it to always get great results with my jam.

My reason, my wife "only follows the written directions", to the best of her ability.
She is funny. OH IT HAS TO BE LIKE THIS DONNIE". I hear that one a lot.
