    Growing Shitake Mushrooms

Just wondering if anyone has tried or done this with success? My Step-dad done this with very good success. Unfortunately I didn't learn anything from him about it. He left some inoculated logs in the woods. I read up some but I got a lot of conflicting information. I really don't know how well they will do as there several years old. I do know that he did grow enough to sell them every year. So anyone have any advice or knowledge on the subject?

I sure don't know how to grow them, but if you are successful I'm a willing student Bronco Fan.

Buy the plugs on Amazon and give it a shot!! I love them!

Never tried though...we have plenty of nurse logs available…I'm just lazy

    Peace,

Never tried growing my own mushrooms. I do carry the wild ones I find in mesh bags so the spores are released as I go through the woods.

I just go out in the woods and forage..............

My favorites are Hen in the Woods (above), Chicken/Sulfur, Morels and Giant Puffballs.

A few more weeks until the morels are out here. Morels, Brook Trout, and leeks.........

Nice foraging! On another note, the French know nothing about vodka.

So here is an update photo. I think our unusual cooler spring slowed them down. They seem to be doing a lot better also after I added a shade tarp. Click image for larger version.

For those that don't know these are wild Chanterelle mushrooms. Picked these in about 30 minutes on the property today. Click image for larger version.
