I do feel the same way. Looking at most people I am well prepped, but looking here, definitely rookie for sure!

I try not to compare my preps with others, too many variables come into play. Every decision is based on your location and finances and probability of this or that.

Me, I'm a country boy, I don't anticipate much for under 5 yd. confrontation, unless its the Fed. When I see them coming, if they don't look/acknowledge they are friendly, game over for them. They'll never get close enough to see my face.

    I need a 50 cal.

You should be able to do really well with either a well zero'd 30-06 or .308 unless you have views out past a mile those good find ammo anywhere calibers will do the trick. My long distance is an 1908 Springfield and I am saving for an M1a Since i can't use my Mil issue M14 anymore since I retired. I am also good with 500-800 yards without worry, anything more than that A good buddy who if things go as planned and we both make it to the house he has a .338 Lapua for the long stuff and since he trained as a Sniper in the Army while I just did DM ...I leave him the long stuff. But I am looking forward to playing with his 338 in the spring now that we both have more free time to test each other's toys.

I am fairly smart and can fix a lot of equipment and hardware thanks to the Army and can even follow some of the discussion on here, but yeah it is mostly above my pay grade.
