I too will remain here until the end whatever it may be.
I will not walk away from everything I have worked for decades and paid for.
Sitting in that pile of brass, I will squeeze the clacker.
The only thing I lack is parachute flares, but I don't think I will need them with my NVG's.
I am not overweight, just old, have walked away from many things that should have killed me.

I put my usual 10 or so holiday lbs on, working outside, weight goes up, clothes get looser. I just have to move the lawn chair cushion box, and a 55 gal glue drum filled with sunflower seed to use the carport for the boat, or shocker, a car so the snow plow can actually plow the next snow storm. My “neighborhood “ is two streets in the county. Everyone has acreage. I know everyone on the two streets. No one would be leaving and I pity the poor bastards that tried to get into the area. Did I ever mention one of my neighbors was a guy that jumped out of planes.. with a dog strapped to them? LOL.

It's been noisy lately, between the Sniper Range Brian has, and the kids with new toys in the back, then the guy harvesting Song Dogs, he doesn't like the treble hook .
All within a 20 minute walk, some closer, maybe some a little further. I'm looking for stuff that's shiny on the ground.

I still have My Interceptor Body Armor from my 2005-6 deployment, the army said it was not on my inventory when I retired, so hey. is it heavy.....yes with all the extras on it. Will I use it depends, but I have several other buddies here in town who are also vets who actually live in town. The plan is if things start to look rough they will come here with all their fire sticks, beans and bullets We will hold this place as long as we can with the beans bullets and gear loaded in the jeeps in the garage so if we need to, we will head up about 20 miles closer to the mitt where one of the guys and old 101 guy like me. Has a nice piece he inherited from his grandparents bordered by swamp and very few neighbors.
But there will be a stack of brass and bodies here if we leave, I only have an acre right now but most of my neighbors are old hunters or vets and won't just roll over and the guy next to me has 75 acres the half a dozen on the other side of the road have an acre like me and are all good people so good crossfire on any fool who comes after us.
At 56 I have no illusions of being like my younger combat days, but I will never go gentle into that good night. Plus, what I can't take or isn't already stashed will burn with the house when I go.
Plus, I don't have a ton of ammo or anything I have enough to put up a really good fire fight or two. I never understood those guys when I worked at Jays who told me they had 20k rounds of this 20k rounds of that...and all these other expensive and heavy preps, but then told me how they were going to bug out. I moved around a lot of ammo in my years in the Army and that stuff is heavy and not easy to haul. So they are basically buying stuff for other people. I won't lie I do know where some of them live. Heck if I run out of ammo there will be ammo in my driveway and if need be the guns to shoot it.

66 yo now, the vests seem lighter, or I'm just moving them around more. I heard a lot of rounds going off out back. I was too busy bringing in plants from the camper to avoid the frost. Fired up the furnace the other day, taking out a window shaker or two today, plugging in the heat tape , power wash the porch and decks, build a new well cover with the wood I remove from the WWII brown bunk bed taking up space in the barn, switch the septic tile fields .
That's the rest of this work weeks plan
I'm rebuilding my work tool cart with the tools that I used for years , the rest is going for trade on a pole barn lean to for boat storage.

Rebuilding means putting the wheels back on with 12 nuts and washers.
Most of the work is relocating 2 bottom drawers of Playbouy mags, and 1 drawer full of gun cleaning stuff..
