I just picked up a big sampler from JRCigars. they all look to be mid tier daily smokers, nothing like an awesome Padron.

JR is a good cigar source.

Those Padron 2000 are pretty decent priced unlike the Padron anniversary editions which can get real pricey.

I haven't had time for a proper cigar for awhile but I've had a hankering to. To tide me over I just fired up a Cohiba Club, it's just a cigarillo but it's a 14 year old puro and a nice little taste of my favorite tobacco.

I'm looking forward to warm weather so I can enjoy a nice cigar on the porch.

Ain't nothin' like a nice summer night with a tasty beverage and a cigar.

Tonight I'm sitting by the fire enjoying a Southern Edge IPA and a Macanudo.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180729/a0ccfa03296b8a8bd532a544fbad1eaf.jpg

Regular cigars, just on the cheaper side. Something I smoke while working or doing yard work.

I expect to hear about them.
I've smoked the ones on the right for a few years. They're a good 'after work,' cigar; a soft, mellow sweet taste but not so much that it tastes like the cheap gas station 'cigars.'

Born out of another conversation I thought a cigar thread would be a good place for people who enjoy a stoogie now and then to make recommendations or show off what you like.

Personally I am still on the hunt for a favorite cigar. I have a few I really like but haven't found that one I couldn't do without. I like the earthy taste with a hint of leather and some nice spice.

Rocky Patel is one of my go to brands I enjoy quite a bit. Tried a new one called Vegas a little while back and although it had a good flavor and a nice draw it left my mouth tasting NASTY the next morning.

What's your goto/favorite cigar?

I've thought about ordering some Dominican leaves and playing with some hand rolled stogies.

I used to roll a perfect joint back in the 70's so I have some basic skill qualities that I belive I could roll a fair Dominican filler and binder with a nice Sumatra wrapper.

I would roll them in a cheroot shape like Clint Eastwood's spaghetti western cigars.

Been hand rolling cigarettes for 20+ years with a Top rolling machine.

Wow..you been at it a while. I started with a Laredo kit in the real early 70s and hung with it a good while. Lost interest till the early 90s and jumped back in with a hand pusher gizmo and Bugler. Lost interest yet again when they raised the tax up on cigarette tobacco. Got back in a year and half ago or so..when a fellow clued me on in cheap pipe tobacco and where to buy a Tops Machine. I have incrementally worked up to a Powermatic 3+ which I love to pieces.

same argument can be made for most consumables.. yes I could make my own beer/whiskey/wine/shoes/cars/golf balls...etc... but I will let those who have perfected it over the years make it for me for a premium... if the cost is the issue, buy the cheap shit and puff away.. I will devote my time to other endeavors and fork out the cash for the premium sticks... as soon as I figure out which ones I like best. then I will vacu-seal a shit ton to ride out the end of days flush...

I make much better for less than a buck a pack..and have even made a few bucks from time to time. How about 4 bucks for something Sir David Niven woulda loved? The Kentucky select and Gambler are real close to a Marlboro/Camel

When I bought pre mades its was Marlboro and Camel.

Gambler has a finer cut than the Kentucky select more suitable for tube rolling.

Well, I don't know enough to start a forum, nut I did do an experiment storing tobacco. It would be a hot trade item for non smokers to have, but smokers seeing the supply dwindling are gonna hang onto theirs LOL

Anyway, took a big pile of Drum and put it in a mason jar. Tossed in a few O2 absorbers and sealed it up. Let it sit 2 years. It was fine when I finally opened it.

Also bought a can of American Spirit and let it sit 2 years. It too was just fine and quite smokable. I'm thinking those tin cans are vacuum packed.
So anyway, it does keep pretty good on the shelf.

kinda, but not really.... had a 140+pt buck standing broadside @ 156yds as shooting light faded... missed it... then I told him to see where it ran.. he said there it is.. then bang... thud..... celebrate.... walk up to it with the flashlight..... it's a doe... luckily his youth tag is for "any deer"....

Hearty congrats to the young hunter! As an old boy told me one time why he didnt like to shoot bucks..."I have tried baking and boiling those horns..just no way to get em tender. "

Don't remember ever saying this on this web forum... so I apologize if I have...
BUT...

If you are ever in the Tampa Florida area..... A trip to Ybor City is a must (Pronounced E Boar).

Ybor City was unique in the American South as a successful town almost entirely populated and owned by immigrants. (Wiki)
Was the Cigar capital of America of the early 1900's IIRC

Wow..thought I remembered this thread. I have decided to branch out from making cigarettes into making cegars. Watched several you tubes on the topic and decided to to do an intermediate step by rolling Cigarillos usings brown cigartette tubes and Pipe/Cigar tobacco. That looks cheaper and easier curently. What would make a good filling for those things. Thanks. If that aint feasible Cheroots are the next project.

Right. Thats why you will like to buy them from me once I learn how to do it. I am usually cheap and competent on all do it type projects. Would you prefer a cigar..cigarette or cigarillo? How about a Cheroot? lol

Its quite an art to be a good Torcedor. Think you can pull that off do you?
Are you schooled in blending fillers, binders and wrappers?

I didn't say anything about a torpedo.

The word is Torcedor. Which means cigar hand roller.

I dont think you realize the knowledge and skill it takes to blend leaves and hand roll a fine cigar. We ain't talking no Swisher Sweets here.

if you are simply rolling things to smoke on-the-cheap and not picky about the quality of you tobacco and such why not just buy cheap flavored swisher sweets? can get cigarillos for .18 a stick... I find it hard to believe your time rolling them isn't worth more than that!

Good point. The liberals aint got the tax on Pipe/Cigar Tobacco raised out of sight yet..as they have with that labeled as cigarette tobacco but its coming. Thats how the RYO hobbyists currently make a pack of Marlboros for less than a buck. The FDA is fixing to ban menthol in cigars and cigarettes which could get interesting for the poor democrats addicted to Long Kools..as think has been discussed previously. Buying the Swisher Sweets would probably be the prudent thing to do. Smart thinking.

Yesterday's sampler sampling was a NUB Cameroon.... didn't really like it at first, but about 1/4 in it smoothed out for me and wasn't horrible. no matter what they say about burn-time being the same as regular cigars, it went fast!

It was a beautiful night for a puff. I did snip the end a bit close so my draw wasn't ideal. but it was mellow and enjoyable

Enjoy them while you can. CT used to have alot of tobacco farms. They are going the way of the dinosaur and being replaced by subdivisions. The land is too expensive to farm anymore. All of the tobacco barns are disappearing too.

FJ Hernandez. Never had one before. Decent smoke. Excellent draw. Earth tones with a hint of leather and spice. I'd smoke it again.

Going back a few posts, 1 lb. tobacco-$15.00, 3 boxes of RYO tubes, $2.50/ea. equals $7.50 a carton. Store boughts are around $80.00/carton.

With the taxes in Oregon, a carton of smoxe is $112. I too have a good stash of rolling stuff for the back end... after my 20 cartons are gone (I figure to cut down/ration when I have to, a carton should last a month). I had a drum of American Spirit that kinda got lost in the shuffle and sat on the shelf for 8 years. It was fine. Altogether over 2 years of smoxe stashed. :)

$112 bucks! I remember when they were around 7 or 8 bucks, and I bitched about it then. Glad I quit smoking years ago. Now I can spend all that money on booze. :bounce:
