I was at the beer store this evening and looky what I found!

2289

The one next to it is a Imperial Black IPA (whatever that is) from the same company that makes Killer Penguin. That is in the fridge right now chilling down for a taste. Outstanding! Still finding the penquins !

Mine used to be Bud ice. But every time I drank it I had this weird urge to buy a gold chain and bust out the boombox and carry it on my shoulder. Fuk da police blasting in hi-fi. Glad I found an alternative workin beer!

Oh shit that's hilarious! A couple months back I was in New York or New Jersey (? I do not remember exactly which but somewhere out there - just outside New York City). I was picking up a cheesesteak at the local dive takeout place and a brotha (exactly as you describe) was in there buying 6 1-quart bottles of Schlitz Malt Liquor. I mean it was SO stereotypical that homey should have been called a racist! I still chuckle thinking about it!

Now that I broke the ice, I brew beer, got that down pat, grow my own hops... for better or worse.

Who makes a good distiller, I kind am leaning to the milk can version from mile high.

And I'm assuming you can distil a bad batch of beer?

AZRancher,

I appreciate you asking! The new knee is great. I'm really glad I got the sumbitch done and didn't wait any longer. I'm 5 weeks and a couple of days post surgery and my Flexion is at 135 degrees which is as good as you can get it according to my PT. I'm walking over a mile on the treadmill and pretty much doing everything at the gym that you can do except for Squats with Weight...and at my age I'm OK with that! I even ran for a few seconds at a time on the treadmill (supervised by my PT) and it felt great.

I've been bugging my PT's to allow me to throw a football and last week I threw a football with one of the Therapists. I was like a kid again. y old knee had so much osteoarthritis that it was painful to throw (football, baseball softball etc). Now, there is zero pain in the joint. The only pain I have is at the incision which is 98% healed and that pain is very slight. I still have one scab at the top of the incision that needs to close up and I should be good to go.

I did some tractor work last weekend, dug some post holes and was off and on the tractor multiple times with no problems. I still have a little bit of swelling but it looks damn near normal. I still get tired easy and hope that will improve over the next few weeks.

Overall, it has gone very well, a few mental ups and downs, but otherwise I'm freaking Golden with a Brand New Titanium Knee!

Thanks again for checking!

Nosing the whiskey.

As with any alcoholic beverage, there are certain flavors to look for while drinking, and certain methods to the drinking that will help release and identify those flavors. For instance, with wine, you want to smell it, let it settle for a few minutes, then let the liquid linger in your mouth so you can get all the flavors.

When it comes to drinking or eating just about anything, you want to let your nose inform your mouth. Believe it or not, the sensation of flavor is a combination of smell and taste. For complex flavors, like those found in many alcoholic beverages, the sense of smell is even more important.

So before you take any sip of whiskey, you want to really get your nose in the glass and take a hearty whiff. As Mr. Graber says, “The first thing is your nose. Your nose will educate your palette. We like sweet things, so you’re going to focus on that at first.”

That first sniff will largely be just alcoholic, and might clear your nostrils a little bit. So give it a second and third sniff and you’ll get some of the true whiskey flavors.

Next, take just a small sip, and sort of roll the liquid around in your mouth. Instead of just swallowing right away, try to pick out different flavors. Since whiskey is always aged in wooden barrels, you’ll almost always get the classic flavors of vanilla, toffee, or caramel. From there, enjoy your drink over the course of 30-60 minutes, with good company of course, and you’ll be a happy whiskey drinker.

And after I roll back one or two of those beers I settled on some reasonably priced bourbon that the party store guy swears I will like at about 14 bucks for a 5th. Never had it before that I know of review later...

Aged in new charred white oak barrels ran thru charcoal for a mellow flavor.
Sounds a bit like Jack Daniels so we shall see.

So update... the Ezra brooks after more careful review sucked. It took me 2 weeks to finish this stuff. There is something in it that does not like me it gave me awful headaches after each couple of drinks. So I will not buy this cheap bourbon again.

I thought I'd love Turkey, but I found the after taste was too much for me..... always tasted like vomit after every bottle I ever drank.

As for all that nose in your drink stuff, I realize now my problem was a lack of appreciation for the full bouquet of the alcohol. I kept trying to acquire it through volume vice using other senses. I just used feel, sight, and taste......which always resulted in degrading my hearing, dimming my sight, changing the taste, and me feeling more of my floor and toilet than I should have.

I was drinking wrong all along.... I had to quit to figure that out.

First time I tried it myself. I gotta admit I didn't like the first 2 or 3 sips. I enjoy the bitterness of a PA and the oat mellowed it out. But now after a few sips it's pretty tasty. I'd prefer a regular ol' Lagunitas over the oat but I'd drink it again.

That's my Arrogant Bastard pint glass. I'm about an hour from the Stone Brewery in San Diego. Next time I'm there I'll grab you some Stone accoutrements. Arrogant Bastard is one of my favorites. And my ex's nickname for me.

Loves me some Racer 5!!! It is one of the redeeming thing about CA. (Present company excluded of course). The other one I fell in love with out there is Drake's IPA.

I don't know why you would, but if you ever find yourself in Wisconsin, check at the local gas stations for an IPA called Spotted Cow. The company is really small and the refuse to sell outside WI and they do not even seem to sell to major beer stores there. The only place I have seen it is at truck stop gas stations. But it is something special too.

If I go to Chitown again while we are living in MN, I'll pick up a few for you.

You and I seem to have the same taste in beer. Yeah CA has a lot of downsides but we do have some good beers.

I'll definitely look for Spotted Cow if I get out that way. Closest I've been to MN is running thru your airport trying to catch a connecting flight on my way to NY. If you can grab a few it'll be appreciated.

I like cans because we have to burn our trash. Too far out in the boonies for trash service. I carry all the cans to the scrap yard and get a lil change for them. There is nowhere to carry glass bottles except the county dump. And they charge a dollar a bag. That said, beer from bottles does seem to taste better.

As long as the bottles are not twist offs, you can sanitize them and reuse them when you brew your own. That is better than paying $16 a case for new bottles!

Ouch! Sounds like they are due. The only time I had to deal with 2 mortgages is when I was in the house with wife#1 & kids, and still holding the condo I had started out in. Then I got laid off.....6 months later declared bankruptcy, and started over.

I have not ridden, I do know how riders feel about their rides. Hang onto it. Even if you sell it to Duck for $1.
Good luck with the loan.

This is a good question. If I were him I'd go the cheapest route possible to get a quality roof since he wants to bug out. But if it was a forever home I'd definitely go metal even if it was more expensive. The new ones last at least 50+ years.

Since I will be really pissed off if I die in this house. I'm going to cheap out and go with shingles. Cuz Im selling and moving to the country and gonna eat a lot of peaches come hell or high water. Otherwise iffen I was in my retirement crib Id do a metal roof for sure! Especially being in the north in snow country.

In all seriousness, don't you think this inordinate fear of "germs" is why we have so many people with allergies and other maladies that were pretty rare when we were kids? Or at least they were rare in terms of being debilitating. I mean "sleep apnea"?!?! When I was a kid, it was called snoring and every fat old man did it and everybody had a good laugh about it. Now it is just another of an endless list of "syndromes"! God we have become a nation of pussies!!!

You nailed it. People don't go outside or get dirty anymore. I can work on the farm all day and never notice the gross stuff cause I'm used to it but I can run to town for diesel and people won't even get in line behind me, I guess cause I am covered in grease and smell like cow shit lol. Most people today never leave blacktop and need a shower after every meal.

One of the redeeming things about coming to Canada is that I get to try beers I have never heard of. Sometimes that is good, sometimes not. Fortunately, they sell individual cans at the beer store so I can try several different ones. Tonight I got 3 (one I have had before):

The first is called Class V by Whitewater Brewing. It is pretty good although the flavor is a little light for me. But I would definitely drink it again:

2376

The second is called Revenge of the Ginger. This stuff is absolutely wretched! It tastes like they fermented Robitussin cough medicine and put it in a can! Whoever decided this was a good idea really needs to be shot! I took 2 sips and poured the rest of the can down the sink.

2377

The third is one that I have had before and really like. It is called Hops and Robbers.

2378

I just cracked that one open. Hopefully it will take away the taste of the previous one!

I ain't crazy about the Apple pie. Don't know if it's the cinnamon or the sweetness. I'm not crazy about sweet drinks in general. Don't even like coke in my bourbon. Did get two quarts of some peach pie last year and took it to lake Cumberland and loved it.

Two (non-alcoholic) drinks I need to learn to make are:

1 - REAL Southern Sweet Tea (pronounced Sweetaa). If you do not pronounce it "Sweetaa" is is probably not real.

2 - Cuban Coffee (like they have in Miami).

They do go down very easily. Of course it helps that my brain is already fried from work. :beathead:

It's much like GJ higher proof different hint of oak due to the grooves cut into the barrel after charring. allows uncharred wood an deeper saturation in aging
Is it worth $170 a bottle?
No.
Should it be tasted? Absolutely!
Anyone who is a true Jack fan must sample it.
If Jack has bottled it I have tasted it.
My wedding band is made from a Jack barrel for God's sake lol.

I always buy rare Jack in 2s cause if I don't I will not be able to stop myself from opening it. This way I can taste it an love it an still put one away so when I die the kids will have something either really awsome to drink or sell for a very nice profit.
That is if on my death bed I don't just go out with a bang and drink them all.

Saw a new kind of guiness. Had to try it out. It was pretty good but not as good as the Sam Adams IPA mentioned earlier. It made a really crazy sound when I opened it. Sorta like letting the air out of a tire? And after I poured it the can was rattling like spray paint. I cut open the can and found this:

Even though Dee is slightly over 40 (and he can drink like a fish), they at least need some kind of hope. With you, TJC44, Slippy and me, I am thinking lights out for the youngsters!
Thats exactly what would happen... wonder if they ever heard the story bout the tortoise and the hare?

Well, we aint doin' rotgut either. We'll let the Duck choose the poison.

True story... When we first met up with Deebo in person, down in OK, he brought me a 6 pack of a very good NM micro beer and brought Mrs Inor a very good NM wine. Then, he gave the pair of us a bottle of wine called "Plum Loco". That stuff, if he paid more than $3 for the bottle, he got screwed. It tasted pretty good and it definitely got you where you were going. But damn, the next morning I thought I had eaten a whole chicken, feathers and all!

Relax. You are still on the young punk side of the fence. (Not for much longer though...) And I spotted you Deebo and I am pretty sure he is in the 41-42 range. But you all at least need one quality "man" (not boy) with ya'll. :biglaugh:

Congratulations on the tequila and congratulations to Mrs Duck on the new car.

Of course if you were a good husband, you would have bought her a Ford because I would not want my wife in a sub-standard Bow Tie when she could be driving in the safety and reliability of an American legend. (You did not actually think I could resist did you?) :biglaugh:

The flex she has was a decent vehicle it served her well. But what a sum bitch to work on. Just a brake job will break the bank on those things.

The Fex was a great ride till about 110k then started with big money repairs our last was 2 wheel bearings an yes brakes was stupid cause there was abs an traction control sensors that would be damaged without being done by a shop. Gas mileage was never great either.

This tequila has 2 flavors silver an gold this is the silver does not have that signature tequila flavor but can taste the blu agave.
Next time I'll buy gold that should have the signature taste.
Almost had words with the young hipster behind the counter trying to tell me what was good tequila he honestly said see these here pointing at all the Jose Cuervo
he said these are not good they are not even tequila they are actually part rum blah blah then tried up selling.
I defended Jose's honor an said he's a good dude in my book. what a douche.

Hipsters piss me off. They are really just the modern version of a hippie. They do not know jack shit about anything (especially drinkables), but think they know everything. I think it is due to the skinny jeans. The jeans squeeze their nuts back up inside their hip bones and their body has to divert all their blood just to keep their nuts alive that their brains get starved for blood until they go full retard. Once they go retard, their brains are no longer smart enough to divert blood to keep their nuts alive and that is when they turn fag.
